CHAPTER THIRTY-TWO

Deep in the Forest, Big Bear Lake, Southern California, United States

Liv didn’t like anything about her current situation. As a Warrior for the House of Fourteen, she was used to high-octane scenarios. Stefan, her husband, was often in danger as a demon hunter, but he could handle himself, she knew. Her sister Sophia was constantly thirty-thousand feet up in the air, fighting battles to prevent wars. Paris, her daughter, had already fought so many dangers in her short number of years on this planet, and Liv had faced down too many enemies to count. Most of the time, they did all of this in shifts.

It was typical that Liv was sneaking through a dark forest to find the one man who could help fix their problems, while her husband allowed the one demon they couldn’t take down to follow him around the same forest. What was worse was their child had to do who knows what to try to fix a problem the world had never seen on a scale this large. Somewhere out there, Sophia was guarding and waiting and ready to spring into action.

Liv shook off the nervousness building in her stomach and focused on the path ahead. She was grateful she regained her focus because she caught sight of a fresh print in the mud.

Kneeling, Liv touched the dirt printed with the sole of a man’s shoe—size ten. The mud was fresh. The print had been made in the last hour.

Looking up ahead, Liv noticed how the vegetation thickened. That might have been a problem for most, but for this Warrior, it helped to tell a story.

Eyeing the area ahead, Liv paid special attention to the trail of tiny broken twigs. They started to the right and veered further that way before breaking left. That had to be Renswick’s path. Hopefully, Liv could follow it until it led her to him.

Everything rested upon her finding that man. If she didn’t, there would be another huge problem unleashed by Tomár for Paris to fix. Stefan would have to keep hunting the demon he couldn’t kill, constantly putting him in danger.

It rested upon Liv’s shoulders to find the demon expert Renswick and the way to rid the world of the biggest problem of all, the demon known as Tomár.
